Christian McCaffrey

RB, Stanford

The Detroit Lions can look at their 2016 season in one of  two ways. They can either be happy that they made it to the playoffs in their first year since the retirement of star wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Or they can be sad that they only made it to the playoffs as a wild card, after giving up a huge lead in the NFC North to the Green Bay Packers in the second half of the season.

Whichever way they want to slice it, the Lions were a playoff team in 2016, and they should do everything they can to keep moving forward. The team did a nice job this offseason bringing in reinforcements on the offensive line, replacing the departed Riley Reiff with Rick Wagner. At guard, the Lions were able to snatch T.J. Lang away from those Packers, giving them the best free agent player at that position.

The Lions were beaten bad in their playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, as they failed to do anything on offense. The lack of a true weapon in the run game hurt them late in the season, and they should look to fix that in April. Christian McCaffrey was an incredible player at Stanford, and after a standout performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, he cemented his place as a legitimate first-round draft pick in April’s draft.
