2017 NFL Draft: Los Angeles Chargers 7-round mock
The Chargers need to provide a spark with their new location, who can they add in the draft to do that?
The Chargers season at first glance looks like a team far away from competing. However, they are a team that suffered bad injuries early and often and saw their team fall apart around it. The Chargers should hope to see better health, and with some high draft picks in a loaded draft, it could bring them right into the AFC West conversation. With that said, who will the Chargers draft with their seven picks in 2017?
Many pundits and scouts around the league would agree that if Malik Hooker is on the board at pick seven he would be the best player available. Safety also just so happens to be one of the Chargers biggest needs, and for a player who can play the deep ball from sideline to sideline, it would be worth the pick.
The Chargers current safety starters are projected to be Dwight Lowery and Jahleel Addae. Lowery is a 31-year old free safety who is a free agent in 2018 and is being paid backup level money as it is. Addae was just re-signed but is a better player in the box, and with Hooker being capable to instantly be inserted into the lineup, it is a great scheme fit. Hooker has had to sit out of the off-field workouts due to a Labrum injury from late in the season.
It will likely get him to slide to pick seven, but the Chargers should look to the upside and the talent and bet on Malik Hooker with the seventh pick.
