Fabian Moreau

Cornerback, UCLA

This is a great draft when it comes to the depth and talent of the cornerback position. It likely means a great prospect, and some potential top 15 players will fall into the second round. The Chargers may be able to find that with pick 38, and with a player such as Fabian Moreau.

Moreau has the size and the athleticism to be a great cornerback in this league. He is a former running back, and while it shows some flaws in his technique, which will need some work in the offseason. It also shows his upside and athletic ability. He is not afraid to defend the run and is not afraid to press and get his hands on the receiver. Moreau can be an outside cornerback in this league and a very good one at that.

The Chargers cornerback situation is far from complete. Casey Hayward stepped up in a major way, but behind him are major question marks. Jason Verrett has a serious injury history, and his best work is done in the slot. Behind that is Craig Mager, Trevor Williams, and Trovon Reed. Needless to say, the position is not complete. If the Chargers could hit on a cornerback who can compete to start on the outside by week one, it would be a huge success.
