2017 NFL Draft: Los Angeles Chargers 7-round mock
The Chargers were able to hit their defense with their first two picks, and now they can find some weapons for Philip Rivers. The consensus around Smith-Schuster has been up and down, and many questions what scheme would be best for him. The Chargers scheme may be the best one and if he is around in the third round, he would be a great fit.
Smith-Schuster is a possession receiver. He can go over the top at times, but he is better at finding quick space, getting the ball and gaining extra yards. Essentially he profiles similarly to every Chargers receiver the team has been attracted to recently. They did add Travis Benjamin, and with that have a deep threat to keep safeties honest. However, their bread and butter involve Philip Rivers getting the ball out quick, and hitting his playmakers in stride.
Keenan Allen tore his ACL and has a long list of injuries. Tyrell Williams and Dontrelle Inman have some upside, but there is some definitely a reason to try to add another threat in the short passing game. He could come in and compete for snaps immediately and is in the draft at just age 20. He is a good investment and their best bet at pick 71.
