NBA Tank Rankings: Why do bad games happen to bad teams?
1. Los Angeles Lakers
Timofey Mozgov’s Season
October 26. 2016 – March 5, 2017
“Mistakes were made”
I’m not here to defend Timofey Mozgov’s Season. That’s for his lawyers to do, and I’ve not been paying attention to the trial for a few weeks now. We’ll decide whether or not to cross that bridge when we come to it.
Look. Who hasn’t wanted to be vastly overpaid for what they do at the expense of the people around them and Your Team’s Future Seasons? Put your hand down, Giannis’ Season. Your arms are too long, and you’re blocking out the sun.
We’re all human, right? Kind of? It’s natural to want to get yours. Don’t do they. Do you.
Timofey Mozgov’s Season did him and didn’t do much else. There was a double-double or two. No wait, just one. And there were those times he scored double digits. This was the closest Timofey Mozgov’s Season came to being useful.
All right. I’ll just come out and say it. I don’t miss him. We’re all better off now that Timofey Mozgov’s season is over. If he had to take Luol Deng’s Season with him, so be it. The real tragedy here is that Nick Young’s Season is on life support and may not even get the dignity of a tidy end. He’s getting DNP’s just the same.
The difference is Nick Young’s Season was a treasure. It was a phoenix rising from the damp ashes of Byron Scott’s Season last year. He was soaring and smiling. Smiling and soaring. What is he now.
Next: Harden's Rockets vs. Jokic's Nuggets is the playoff series we deserve
We don’t know. We may never know.
I hope it’s worth it, Los Angeles Laker’s Season. I hope you know what you’ve done. This was your fault.
