Second Round

59

Tre'Davious White

Cornerback, LSU Tigers

If LSU Tigers cornerback Tre’Davious White falls to the Chiefs at No. 59 in the second round, it’s a no-brainer for Chiefs general manager John Dorsey to make. LSU is a powerhouse of a program when it comes to generating talent in the secondary. Kansas City has proven to be one of the better coached defensive backfields in the NFL.

What Bob Sutton was able to get out of troubled Washington Huskies cornerback Marcus Peters in two years is tremendous. White doesn’t have the ball skills of Peters, but who does? However, White looks to be a cornerback that can play in multiple roles in a defense.

Ideally, he’d play out on an island outside the numbers. He has the footwork to thrive in that role. While he may lack the physicality to be elite at press man, White is quick afoot to succeed in nickel and dime packages.

If the former Bayou Bengal can carve out a role in a secondary like the Chiefs, we could be looking at a future Pro Bowler in White. He’s not going to be one of the first cornerbacks off the board, but since Kansas City knows what it’s doing at the position, it is a good idea to take him at No. 59. He could have the best season of any corner entering the draft if it fires on all cylinders for him in Kansas City.
