Third Round

91

Cooper Kupp

Wide Receiver, Eastern Washington Eagles

Kansas City has two picks in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The Chiefs can afford to experiment with some of their picks in this round. Though he played at a small school, No. 91 of the third round feels like a good time to take Eastern Washington Eagles wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

He looks to be a possession/slot receiver at the next level. Though he’s not as fast as Chris Conley, he’ll be more durable and more effective in the Chiefs passing game. Anybody who takes this guy in the third round will be getting a good player for the next several years in the NFL.

104

Brad Kaaya

Quarterback, Miami Hurricanes

It may not be this year that the Chiefs go all-in on getting an upgrade at quarterback over Alex Smith, but Kansas City should look to draft a quarterback every spring until they find a franchise guy. The pick that makes sense this year for the Chiefs is Miami Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya at No. 104 in the supplemental part of the third round.

At one time, Kaaya had the vibe of being a certain first-round pick. A bad end to his ACC season and entering the draft albeit too early didn’t help his draft stock. However, Kaaya has obvious arm talent and could grow to be a starter in two to three years under Andy Reid’s tutelage.
