First base

1) Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers – The title of highest-rated first baseman in The Show 17 goes to one of the greatest right-handed hitters in the game’s history at 92.

2) Joey Votto, Cincinnati Reds – Votto gets Cincinnati on to this list, as his ability to do just about whatever he wants at the plate earns him a 91.

3) Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks – Goldschmidt has an identical 91 overall rating, and rates higher than Votto defensively. Votto has a slight edge on the offensive metrics, however.

4) Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs Rizzo’s rating this year is 89, a number that the Cubs could surpass in the win column in August if he plays up to his potential.

5) Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves – If Atlanta contends for a wild card spot this season in real life, it will be partially due to Freeman, who gets an 88 rating this year.

Second base

1) José Altuve, Houston Astros – Not only is he the highest-rated second baseman in The Show 17, he has the second-highest rating of all players at 97.

2) Robinson Canó, Seattle Mariners – Canó comes in at 91, representing a Mariners team that has underachieved in recent years but hopes to reverse that trend in 2017.

3) Ian Kinsler, Detroit Tigers – Kinsler’s 89 rating means the right side of the Detroit infield is well represented in The Show 17.

4) Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox – Nearly as ageless as Molina, Pedroia’s 88 means that few in The Show 17 at his position can compare to his skills despite his age.

5) Daniel Murphy, Washington Nationals – Murphy matches Pedroia’s 88 because of his enormous production at the plate. That rhyme was completely intentional.
