2017 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys 7-round mock
After losing Barry Church, the Dallas Cowboys must find a strong safety for 2017. One of the best available is Justin Evans from Texas A&M. He has all the physical tools needed to be a force in the NFL, whether he’s rushing the passer or dropping back into coverage. Evans is a very aggressive player, which can be a good thing and a bad thing
He made plays in his two years with the Aggies, notching five interceptions in two years. Four of those interceptions came in 2016. Evans put up 87 tackles in 2016, including five behind the line of scrimmage. He has excellent coverage instincts with eight passes defended. Evans can also add something to the return game, though he certainly isn’t a touchdown threat.
The Aggies strong safety should fit well into the Dallas Cowboys defense. Evans has a lot of the same qualities of the departed Church. At 6-foot-0, he lacks the ideal size you want to see in a strong safety. However, Evans makes up for it with exceptional speed and hard hitting. He has the versatility to fill in as a slot corner or even a free safety thanks to his overall athleticism. Evans should be a starter from day one.
