WrestleMania 33 rumors: Jim Ross to call a match
By Nick Tylwalk
A report suggests that the former voice of the WWE will return to call one match on Sunday in Orlando.
One unique and cool thing about pro wrestling is that no matter how much you try to napalm a bridge, it’s hard to burn it forever (though the WWE and CM Punk are certainly testing that idea). So even though Jim Ross has been on the outs with the company for a bit, you figured he’d be back in the picture at some point.
That point could come as soon as Sunday night. Pro Wrestling Sheet claims it has sources telling the site that “Jim Ross will once again get behind a WWE headset” and that his appearance was agreed to prior to WrestleMania week. The site doesn’t know which match he might call but speculates it might be either Goldberg-Brock Lesnar or Undertaker-Roman Reigns.
Either one would make sense. Ross was part of the team that called WrestleMania XX, the site of the first Goldberg-Lesnar confrontation, and would create some obvious continuity. Plus that match is likely to be a short one this time around, so he wouldn’t need to worry about a ton of advance preparation.
Ross has also been the announcer for some of the Undertaker’s most iconic WrestleMania moments, and if the Dead Man is even considering hanging it up after Orlando, it would only be right for J.R. to usher him out. It’s harder to imagine this, though, if rumors of ‘Taker-Reigns closing the show turn out to be on point, since one would imagine the WWE wouldn’t kick its current announce team to the curb for the main event.

Still, any opportunity to hear J.R. on the mic again would be a welcome one. For the longest time, it wouldn’t have felt like WrestleMania without him, and now the show of shows might have the proper atmosphere, at least for one of its biggest matches.
