4. Can Tate Martell impress enough to play this year?

When it comes to intriguing freshman coming into the 2017 season, Tate Martell is certainly near the top of the list. The 5-foot-10 quarterback is the very definition of electric and the heart that he brings to the field that can’t be electric.

He’s fighting the obstacle of a crowded field of quarterbacks this year. Therefore, Martell could just as well end up receiving a redshirt. Still, he’s so explosive at the position coming into college that it’s going to be hard to keep him off the field.

If he can continue to impress in the spring game and be dynamic, he’s going to force Meyer’s hand potentially. It’s hard to sit someone for a year that has so much talent that could come in and change the game at any moment.

The recent success of freshman quarterbacks in college football could very well lead to Martell being able to play this season. J.T. Barrett is the starter on this team but if Martell can earn some playing time, there’s no reason he shouldn’t find himself in certain packages. He is just simply that talented.
