Joakim Noah continues to have the worst possible season

The contract Joakim Noah signed with the Knicks this summer is going to go down in NBA history as one of the worst ever. At the time, everybody knew it was bad, but it’s somehow steadily gotten worse as the season has gone on.

Noah hasn’t met even the lowest of expectations for New York this season. Multiple injuries have led to an inability to get on the court, and when he has managed to do so, his performance has been lackluster at best. He just can’t find a way to make an impact. Multiple years of high minutes and injuries have stripped him of the ability he once had. His year only got worse when he suffered an injury that was supposed to force him to miss most, if not the entirety, of the season. Then, like a cherry on top of the crap sundae, Noah was suspended for a positive PED test. He can’t even serve that suspension until he’s back from injury.

Initially it seemed like Noah wouldn’t have time to serve his suspension until the start of next season, but today the news somehow got worse. He has a torn rotator cuff and will miss four to six months. Again, he has yet to serve his suspension because he was already out with a previous injury.

Noah will finish the first year of his $72 million contract on the injury list. He will start the second of four years suspended for 20 games, and that might not happen until a month into next season. When he is able to return he’ll probably be even worse off than he was skill wise with injury after injury sapping him of his skill. With so many younger players outperforming Noah this year it’s hard to see how New York even plays him next season, but there is no chance anybody trades for him.

With only one year in New York, and three left, Noah is essentially unplayable. He is by far the worst contract in the NBA and it’s only going to get worse from here.
