JuJu Smith-Schuster

Wide Receiver, USC

The theme of the early stages of the draft is to build around Jared Goff. In JuJu Smith-Schuster, the Rams are getting a young, but an extremely talented wide receiver who fits into the exact style of player the Rams are looking for.

Smith-Schuster is 20 years old, making him the youngest player in the NFL draft. However, he has been starting at USC since his freshman year. It is a feather in his cap but has also put him under the college lights long enough for his game to be picked apart.

Sure, he is not the most athletic wide receiver, and will not take the top off a la John Ross. Still, this is a player who will go over the middle with ease, has big hands, and ability to create yards in open space. Smith-Schuster also plays with a bit of a mean streak, which shows in his blocking in the running game.

As mentioned, the Rams want to be a team that leans on Todd Gurley to give Goff time. Goff is a much better passer in the short and quick game, and finding Smith-Schuster on slants, drags, and outs would be the best situation for Goff. While they signed Robert Woods and have Tavon Austin and Pharoh Cooper under contract, Smith-Schuster is arguably the most talented wide receiver on the team, and surely has the most upside. He can grow beside his USC brother in Woods, and the two should do wonders for the running game and offense as a whole.
