Leonard Fournette

Running back, LSU Tigers

The Jacksonville Jaguars have to continue the trend started last season. They need to hit on first-round picks. Before taking Jalen Ramsey in 2016, Jacksonville had taken Dante Fowler Jr., Blake Bortles, Luke Joeckel, Justin Blackmon, Blaine Gabbert, Tyson Alualu and Eugene Monroe in each of the previous eight draft. Those picks range from unproven to historic bust, but general manager Dave Caldwell has a chance to get a second straight star with Leonard Fournette.

Fournette is arguably the best prospect at the running back position since Adrian Peterson came into the league a decade ago. His unique blend of speed and power makes Fournette too large for a defensive back to handle in the open field, and yet too quick for most linebackers. If there was a quality offensive tackle here, that would be the pick for Jacksonville. The Jaguars desperately need to upgrade their front line, but Fournette represents a fit for both need and best player available. With Blake Bortles throwing far too many interceptions and taking an absurd amount of sacks, the former LSU star should take some of the pressure off him. With Chris Ivory in the backfield as well, head coach Doug Marrone would have a nice option to keep Fournette fresh in the Florida heat.
