4. Jose Reyes

Reyes got off to an incredibly slow start this season, but he hit .370 (10-for-27) with three home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored during a recent seven-game hitting streak (entering Tuesday). A look at his overall numbers-.172, three home runs, five RBI and12 runs scored-shows how bad Reyes was at the plate for most of April.

Reyes has mostly played third base this year and in 2016, in place of Wright, but has played five games (with three starts) in his customary spot at shortstop this season. That versatility could appeal to other teams, and before last season’s suspension and injury-shortened campaign he was a useful offensive player in recent years despite a decline from his peak.

Wright’s extended absence, with no real end in sight, makes trading Reyes a difficult proposition for the Mets to consider. But right now, in the midst of a hit streak at the plate, represents a high point in his value that is unlikely to be sustainable. An expiring contract, though technically with an option for 2018, seems to make Reyes a tradeable asset.
