The St. Louis Blues have announced that Martin Brodeur will not be returning as the goalie coach next season.

Martin Brodeur has decided to step down from his position as the St. Louis Blues goalie coach, effective immediately. However, Brodeur will be keeping his other position within the organization as the Blues assistant general manager. Brodeur has been the goalie coach since February 1st. Brodeur took over when Jim Corsi was fired along with Ken Hitchcock.

The Blues general manager Doug Armstrong was the man to state the news, making it clear that Brodeur’s coaching career was taking a halt in favor of other duties. Armstrong also made another thing very clear, “[Brodeur] wasn’t fired, just for the record.”

In the 25 games that Brodeur was working with Jake Allen as the goalie coach, Allen saw a bit of a minor revival. Allen went 16-7-2, had a 1.85 goals against average, a .938 save percentage, and posted three shutouts. Before Brodeur took over Allen was 17-13-3, with a 2.83 goals against average, an .895 save percentage, and one shutout.

Doug Armstrong did state, after letting everyone know about Brodeur stepping down, that he would assist in the search for the next goalie coach. A very smart move by the organization to draw on a great mind for goalies like Brodeur.

"“Marty’s going to take the lead on that in the sense that he knows Jake’s personality,” Armstrong said. “… We’re not going to just let Jake pick the goalie coach but Marty knows what makes him tick and we’re going to try to find the attributes of a goalie coach that can help Jake. But we’ve also got [goalie Ville] Husso coming, we’ve got [Carter Hutton] here. We’re going to get an organizational guy but focused on what’s going to give Jake the chance to have the best success.”"

The search for the next goalie coach will start immediately for the Blues.
