4. Dakereon Joyner

Getting a quarterback who can both run and pass the ball is crucial in the college game. That is why Dakereon Joyner is such a hot commodity.

Joyner is from Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, South Carolina. He is a four-star recruit who is the No. 183 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.

The recruitment of Joyner has really heated up over the last few years. This kid has earned 15 scholarship offers from elite level programs like Alabama and Clemson. But, despite offers from such historically great programs, he has cut his list down to just two schools he will be choosing from.

The South Carolina Gamecocks and North Carolina State Wolfpack are the two programs vying for Joyner’s commitment. One of these two teams will be receiving a top 300 player and someone who can do just about anything on the football field.

South Carolina would be a good fit for Joyner because of the location and the fact their quarterback situation isn’t too stable. They had Jake Bentley start last season as a true freshman and he only threw for 1,420 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Those aren’t numbers that lock him in as the starter for 2017.

The quarterback situation is still up in the air for the Gamecocks next season. That means there could be playing time on the horizon for Joyner if he performs well.

North Carolina State isn’t in the same boat as South Carolina. They are more set at the quarterback position with Ryan Finley heading into his redshirt junior campaign. Last season, Finley threw for 3,059 yards, 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has the ability to be the starter for North Carolina State for the next two seasons.

Knowing that Joyner will have to sit and wait for his chance at North Carolina State, he will probably end up choosing South Carolina on his commitment date of June 18, 2017. This will be a big day for the Gamecocks and one that could change the program for years to come.
