NBA All-Time Mock Draft: Which NBA legends would get picked by teams right now?
By Ti Windisch
13. Denver — Steve Nash
The Denver Nuggets have a lot of interesting pieces in place. Nikola Jokic is a transformative talent at the center position who can pass like no other big men currently in the NBA. Talented forwards like Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari give Denver some good veteran scoring presence.
In addition, younger players like Gary Harris and Jamal Murray make up an interesting wing rotation in Denver. Unfortunately, the Nuggets are without a clear starting point guard, as Emmanuel Mudiay has struggled thus far in his young career.
Enter Steve Nash, who played about a decade before he should’ve. A fast point guard who can run an offense like almost nobody else ever, and also shoot the ball with speed and accuracy? Nash was born to play pace-and-space basketball. He did so with the Phoenix Suns in his career, but these days spacing is even more in demand.
Nash could pilot the Nuggets to great, Rocky Mountain-level heights. He averaged 14.3 points, 8.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game across his career, but peak Nash was better than those numbers indicate. From 2001-02 to 2011-12, the first Nash All-Star year to the last, he averaged 16.4 points, 10.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game on 49.9 percent field goal shooting and 43.4 percent 3-point shooting.
The ball movement in an offense with Nash and Jokic would be so unbelievably fun, and with both players being able to shoot 3s the Denver offense would leave opponents dizzy. The defense would be a disaster, but who cares!
