Greene is perhaps the most talked about high school pitcher to come along in quite some time. Recently a subject of an extensive write up by Sports Illustrated that included his photo gracing the cover, Greene is an intriguing two way prospect in this draft.

While Greene is certainly a draftable prospect at shortstop, his future appears brightest on the mound, where his fastball has been clocked at over 100 mph. Sports Illustrated went so far as to use LeBron James as a comparison (different sports obviously) of someone so good and so young. There is very little Greene can’t do on a baseball field.

Perhaps working the most against Greene is that no high school right handed pitcher has ever gone first overall in the major league baseball draft. Offered scholarships by the age of 14 and a four year starter on his high school team, phenom is the best way to describe Greene and his future. Greene’s mechanics have been described as flawless.

Cincinnati, in the middle of their own rebuild, likely sprints this pick to the podium as quickly as possible based on the current assumption Greene doesn’t go first overall to Minnesota (Still possible). When a team can land power pitcher who can already control three pitches for strikes, it’s hard to not choose the player.
