6. Graeme McDowell

Though Graeme McDowell is a former US Open Champion (2010), he’s a player that often gets overlooked for whatever reason. Sure, he’s only won two other times on the PGA Tour since that victory in 2010, but that shouldn’t discredit the product of Northern Ireland in the slightest. And when you look at how he’s been playing this season, he’s been one of the steadiest and most consistent players on the tour.

The 37-year old has missed just one cut in 2017, which is phenomenal consistency as even the top-ranked players in the world can’t say that. Moreover, McDowell has posted eight top-20 finishes to this point. That number looks even more impressive when you consider the fact that he’s only played in 11 tournaments in all of 2017. The drawback, of course, is that he’s not registered a top-10 finish either.

With that said, the things that stand out about McDowell and his play to this point in 2017 are his accuracy off of the tee and his putting. Coming into the US Open, McDowell ranks ninth on the PGA Tour in driving accuracy, which will be pivotal at Erin Hills. What’s more, you win majors n the greens and McDowell is eighth on the tour in strokes gained with putting. Given that and his level of steadiness this year, he’s a nice pick if you’re looking for a dark horse.
