The Sacramento Kings got a majority of their scoring from DeMarcus Cousins — who’s no longer with the team — and Rudy Gay — who’s set to be a free agent.

Joerger will likely turn to De’Aaron Fox to run the point, Buddy Hield at the two-guard, and some combination of Skal Labissiere, Willie Cauley-Stein and Kosta Koufos in the front-court. The key piece that they’re missing on the roster is their starting small forward. The Kings could re-sign Gay or Tyreke Evans, but I think there are some more solid options on the free-agent market.

Although he’s set to be a restricted free agent with the Washington Wizards, Otto Porter Jr. would be a fantastic fit in Sacramento. He’s emerging as a two-way small forward, who can shoot, score and defend on the other end.

This past season, as the third wheel to John Wall and Bradley Beal, Porter Jr. averaged 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds on 52 percent shooting from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range. The best part about him: he’s only 23 years old. That sort of offensive production and shooting ability is only going to improve and more importantly he plays both ends of the floor.

The Wizards’ forward would fit right in with the young nucleus of the Kings and could lead the franchise back to the playoffs alongside Fox and Hield. Teams need solid wing players in the NBA to be successful, especially with the likes of Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard in the Western Conference.

The Kings could find their future star here with Porter Jr and would be able to sign him to a maximum offer sheet — will Washington match it? Likely, but the Kings should still pursue him.
