4. Figure out the minutes delima

The Nuggets simply have too many bodies at this point. Two premier young talents make up the point guard position with Emmanuel Mudiay and Jamal Murray, but ideally, one would take over the lead role. Will Barton, Gary Harris, and Malik Beasley make up the shooting guards where there aren’t enough minutes to go around.

The problem even magnifies itself in the front court. This group includes new signee Paul Millsap, Kenneth Faried, Nikola Jokic, Darrell Arthur, Juan Hernangomez, Trey Lyles, and rookie Tyler Lydon. Obviously, Denver needs to move some of those big men.

Lyles and Lydon were both acquired on draft night. Lyles was acquired in a trade via Utah that was dealing with their own sort of front court minutes problem. Lydon was drafted late in the first round from Syracuse. Both of those players seemingly are off the table since they were just brought into the team.

Ideally, dumping Darrell Arthur is a salary dump would be the best course of action. Arthur is locked up for two more years at over $7 million per year. Arthur, 29, only played in 41 games this past year providing a 6.4 point per game clip.

Denver really has a tough decision to make. Giving up one a young player like Hernangomez is risky business. Personally, one player I would not trade is Kenneth Faried, even after the Millsap signing. Faried is just one of those guys who makes everyone better. I’m not sure anyone is better at wearing their heart on their sleeve like Faried is. Faried falls victim to the minute’s burden but is one of the best rebounders in the NBA (9.2 per game during his second NBA season with consistent minutes).

Don’t forget, Faried is a former USA basketball player for a reason. Oh yeah, he is also the all-time leader in rebounds in NCAA history passing this guy named Tim Duncan, I’m not sure if you ever heard of him. Figure out the minute’s quandary, but don’t trade Faried or else you will get burned like the Nurkic deal.

Another could be Wilson Chandler who could bring back a solid return. Since Chandler is on a one-year deal at a reasonable rate ($12 million), he could be one piece that’s also moved to clear this dilemma. Then again, maybe there’s a wiser course of action to clear this mess.
