Paul Millsap signs with Nuggets: 5 biggest questions we have
By Trey Daubert
3. Go big game hunting, execute on trades
As I explained above, I’m not sure anyone realizes how many assets the Nuggets have. With all those young players in house, maybe it’s time to cash in on some of those young players. Clearly, the Nuggets are in win-now mode and need to alleviate playing time anyway. Making a three for one deal makes a lot of sense.
With Jimmy Butler and Paul George being dealt, it’s tough to pinpoint which superstar to target. Dealing for Kevin Love made a ton of sense prior to the Millsap signing. Even potentially loading up for Kristaps Porzingis seems unlikely now that Phil Jackson has been let go. Denver could use a star wing player but none seem to be available on the market.
Either way, Denver has to be creative. It appears that they aren’t happy with the point guard arrangement as there have been reports of them shopping Emmanuel Mudiay. Maybe they can target a player like Dennis Schroder from Atlanta who are clearly in rebuild mode. Schroder is a proven commodity and on his way to becoming elite.
Maybe the easier answer is to just go the salary dump route. Trading players like Wilson Chandler or any player of their choosing for picks makes more sense. This way they can acquire some future draft picks to use at a later date. There’s nothing wrong with being in win-now mode and rebuilding assets at the same time. Just ask Boston, it’s worked out pretty well over there. Nevertheless, Denver has to clear some salary somehow in order to execute the next move.
