25 NASCAR drivers to consider as getaway drivers for that one last heist
Kyle Larson
Hiring Kyle Larson as your getaway driver is the epitome of “get it while it’s hot.” Larson is the current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points leader, and a two-time race winner in the 2017 NASCAR season. But he’s stayed at the top of the standings largely through consistency. In addition to the two victories, he’s had five second-place finishes and four other results in the Top 10. He’s racing better than he’s ever raced in his Cup Series career, possibly ever.
Here’s an eye-popping statistic: in his Xfinity Series career, Larson racked up 68 top-10 finishes over 98 races. That’s roughly 60 percent of the time he was finishing in the top 10. So if he were your man, you’d be hiring a driver who’s not just good in a pinch but consistently strong. And you want someone who’s consistent, because if there’s one spot where you don’t want things to be unpredictable, it’s with the guy whose job it is to get you out of Dodge before you wind up in prison.
Personality-wise, Larson also seems like someone you could depend on to keep a cool head and keep on target. Everything we’ve seen from him in the NASCAR Cup Series is as a driver who’s focused and who calmly just shows up and races. His biggest problem in 2017 has been being sent airborne by Ryan Blaney. If you want your heist to go smoothly and you’re not expecting a ton of confrontation, Larson would be an excellent choice as he’s as drama free as it gets.
