Aric Almirola

Aric Almirola is currently on the sidelines recovering from injuries suffered in a vicious crash at Kansas Speedway about a month ago, but if he were driving right now, he’d be a solid choice as a getaway driver. Almirola doesn’t draw a lot of attention to himself; he just shows up and drives.

He’s also proven through his tenure with Richard Petty Motorsports that he can drive pretty well despite not having the resources of a major Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team. Before his crash, Almirola finished fourth in this year’s Daytona 500 and also recorded two other top-10 finishes in the 2017 NASCAR season.

Overall, the Florida native has one win and 29 top-10 results in his decade long Cup Series career. He may not be the most high-profile driver you could pick, but considering that the entire point of a getaway driver is to get away, wouldn’t you want someone who can perform under the radar?

Almirola also would bring some off-track skills with him to your criminal get-together. Before he started to pursue a career as a professional race car driver, he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Central Florida, so he’d have knowledge of how the car works, not just how to drive it.

Plus, his nickname is “The Cuban Missile,” which would be a fantastic nickname for the getaway driver on a robbery crew. And if you ever do get made, there’s a 50-50 chance that the cops would put his name in the computer wrong and be looking for some guy named “Eric.”
