The Buffalo Sabres and 24-year old left wing Johan Larsson have agreed to terms on a two-year deal today. The deal is worth $2.95 million in total over the next two seasons. It has yet to be confirmed on whether this is a one-way or a two-way contract with the Sabres.
Larsson is a solid depth forward for the Sabres, playing in 74 games in 2015-16, but only 36 last season. In 2015-16 Larsson had 10 goals, a career high, and seven assists. Last season, in only 36 games with the Sabres, Larsson had six goals and five assists.
Larsson has been a part of the Sabres organization since the 2012-13 season, starting off with their AHL-affiliate, the Rochester Americans. In three seasons with the Americans he played in 102 games, scoring 31 goals and adding 54 assists to his total.
Larsson got his first chance with the Sabres during the 2013-14 season, playing in a total of 28 games. During that time, he had zero goals, four assists and 19 penalty minutes. And while his performances weren’t all that impressive, his play in the AHL for the rest of that season and the following season saw him make the Buffalo roster in full-time in 2015-16.
Before making the move to North American hockey he played in the Swedish Elite League with Brynas IF Gavle. During his time in the SEL, he played in 92 games over two seasons, scoring 16 goals and adding 28 assists. This was after he was drafted in the second round, 56th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild.
