Donovan Dijak announces farewell tour, reportedly headed to WWE in September
Independent star Donovan Dijak scheduled to start with WWE this fall after finishing up final local dates.
Donovan Dijak is headed to the WWE. The independent star took to Twitter to announce some final dates on the independent scene, along with some cool commemorative t-shirts that you can pick up.
PWInsider reports that he’s scheduled to be at the WWE Performance Center starting in September.
Along with the tweeted dates, Dijak is scheduled to appear at Limitless Wrestling on July 21 and WrestleCircus on July 22. He’ll also be on the US Progress event on August 12. Given his start date at the PC, his final independent dates could be for PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles on September 1-3.
Dijak was rumored to be heading to the company earlier this year, but ROH threatened legal action in January. His ROH deal expired in February, and rather than re-sign with the company, he waited for another WWE offer.
Dijak, 30, made his professional debut in 2013 after playing Division III basketball and football. In 2015, he won ROH’s Top Prospect tournament. Following his tournament victory, he joined Truth Martini’s House of Truth stable until early 2016, when he became the Crown Jewel of Prince Nana’s Embassy.
It’s expected that Dijak will join other former ROH stars such as Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly in NXT. The brand has quickly become WWE’s version of an independent promotion rather than the development company it was originally sought to be.
Billed at 6-foot-7 and 270 pounds, Dijak has the size and athleticism to quickly make an impact at Full Sail. Only 30, Dijak is still improving in the ring and should greatly benefit from working in NXT alongside top performers like Bobby Roode and Kassius Ohno.
In March, ESPN called him “one of pro wrestling’s hottest free agents,” noting that Vince McMahon would love his size and fans would love his ability.
