San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have been in the point guard market all offseason. With Tony Parker getting old and coming off a ruptured quadricep in the playoffs, the Spurs were reportedly chasing Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry this summer. They struck out on both players, but could now turn their attention to Irving.

The deal is a rather simple one.

Cleveland gets rid of Irving, San Antonio gets rid of LaMarcus Aldridge. The creates an entirely new problem for the Cavaliers, who will now have Aldridge and Kevin Love on the roster, but we’re not concerned about them right now. This is all about getting Kyrie to San Antonio.

With Kyrie running point, the pressure will be off Kawhi Leonard to create offense on every possession. While Kyrie’s defense is suspect, it should be masked enough under Gregg Popovich’s system. After all, the Spurs have had an elite defense the past few seasons with Parker at the point and Pau Gasol and David Lee as well.

It’ll be a bloodbath in the West next season with Golden State somehow getting better, Oklahoma City re-tooling with Paul George and Houston adding Chris Paul. The Spurs are the Spurs, and thus given the benefit of the doubt, but they haven’t made an impact like the three teams they’ll compete with.

Kyrie Irving is the impact player they just might need.
