Mark Cuban is always looking to make a splash. While Dennis Smith Jr. is the Mavericks’ point guard of the future, Cuban wants to compete every year. He always feels that he owes that to star Dirk Nowitzki.

Getting Kyrie Irving allows them to compete this year.

Wesley Matthews isn’t the player that he once was, or even the guy he could have been if not for injuries, but he’s still a solid defender who can shoot from three. The Cavaliers need anyone who can play a lick of defense at this point. Devin Harris isn’t anything special, but Cleveland is on a quest to acquire point guards this offseason, especially if their starter wants out. The Mavericks can throw in draft picks as well.

Kyrie on Dallas doesn’t vault them into the West powerhouse conversation, but he does push the Mavericks toward the playoffs. If he wants to run his own team, there are few better options than the Mavs, who have an aging Dirk and a good but not great Harrison Barnes. Kyrie would be given free reign on offense.

It helps that Rick Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the league and will get the most out of his new star.
