20. Mayweather publicly shamed Shantel Jackson, his ex-fiancee, for having an abortion

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s heinous history of domestic violence has been thoroughly documented, but another side of Mayweather emerged when he publicly shamed his ex-fiancee, Shantel Jackson, for having an abortion. In a report on TMZ, Mayweather argued that the public nature of their celebrity pairing justified his decision to discuss Jackson’s abortion on social media.

Mayweather posted an image of a document proving Jackson had terminated her pregnancy, along with a sonogram of Jackson’s ultrasound, on Instagram. A classless accompanying caption, which is not worth quoting, included the #TheMoneyTeam and #TMT hashtags, amongst others. The TMZ report notes that following the acrimonious end to their relationship, Jackson sued Mayweather for “assault, battery, defamation, invasion of privacy and more.”

On March 29, 2017, BoxingScene.com published the following update about the Mayweather-Jackson case:

"A portion of ex-fiancée Shantel Jackson’s suit against former world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is barred by the anti-SLAPP statute, the Court of Appeal has ruled. Division Seven of the Court of Appeal in the State of California ruled that Jackson cannot sue Mayweather for defamation or false light portrayal in connection with his postings on social media regarding the termination of her pregnancy, and that she cannot sue for public disclosure of private facts based on his public comments about her plastic surgery. The ruling leaves intact claims for conversion, recovery of personal property, battery, assault, false imprisonment, and infliction of emotional distress and harassment."

Regardless of how this case is settled or decided, it’s a sobering reminder of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s unacceptable treatment of women.
