Drew McIntyre hopped on Sean Waltman’s podcast recently. It was there that McIntyre, who will challenge Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, proclaimed himself as the John Cena of the brand.

It has been an intriguing year for Drew McIntyre. The Scottish superstar made his return to the WWE umbrella after WrestleMania weekend, making an appearance in the crowd at NXT TakeOver: Orlando. McIntyre has since gone on a tear in the brand, putting on quality matches and the like. It’s safe to say the Scotsman is feeling froggy as he gets ready for this title match in Brooklyn vs. NXT Champion Bobby Roode. Why? Well, McIntyre had no problem throwing John Cena’s name out into the fray.

On a recent episode of Sean Waltman’s AfterBuzz show, X-Pac 12360, the man once known as X-Pac dished with the former Intercontinental Champion. Waltman and McIntyre talked about a variety of topics, including TakeOver, the rise of his former 3MB mate Jinder Mahal and others. One in particular drew some attention as McIntyre compared himself to The Face That Runs The Place.

"Waltman: To be honest with you, I wouldn’t be too happy if I had to get off the airplane. I don’t know where you came from. Did you come from Tampa?McIntyre: Yeah, yeah. I came from Tampa.Waltman: Coast to coast, have to get off the airplane and do a podcast.McIntyre: I’m weird I guess. I don’t know. I’m just… if I’m talking about wrestling, then I’m happy. Like I’ve got an opportunity to come and rap about wrestling with yourself. I tell the company all the time. Just think of me like your John Cena in NXT. If there’s something going on, and someone doesn’t want to do it, I’m your guy. So I’m doing this. I’m happy."

Okay. So, we CAN pump the brakes a bit, as it appears McIntyre was comparing his work ethic and willingness to do outside projects, interviews and the like to Cena’s. He does have a good point in that regard, considering how high Cena’s willingness is to take up mainstream activities when he can. McIntyre does dish on that desire and passion for wrestling later on in the episode, so he’s not bluffing about it at all.
