NL Wild Card Standings

Colorado Rockies (65-52, .556, – GB)

The Rockies are in their familiar spot in the NL Wild Card standings, but a three-game sweep at the hands of the Marlins in Miami over the weekend put Colorado in a tie with the Diamondbacks for the top spot. Also, the charging St. Louis Cardinals are now just 4.5 games back in the race.

However, the Rockies suffered worse news than the losses last week. Nolan Arenado, the MLB leader in RBI, was hit in the hand by a fastball Sunday. Fortunately, X-rays were negative and Arenado won’t miss extended time.

Arizona Diamondbacks (65-52, .556, – GB)

Paul Goldschmidt homered three times and Jake Lamb, David Peralta and Chris Ianetta each hit two long balls for the Diamondbacks last week. However, the offense wasn’t nearly enough to avoid back-to-back series losses to the Dodgers and Cubs. Patrick Corbin, who tossed 6.2 scoreless innings in Saturday’s win over Chicago, was the only D-Backs starter to allow fewer than three runs over the course of the week.

St. Louis Cardinals (61-57, .517, 4.5 GB)

Milwaukee Brewers (61-59, .508, 5.5 GB)

Pittsburgh Pirates (58-60, .492, 7.5 GB)

Miami Marlins (56-60, .483, 8.5 GB)

New York Mets (53-62, .461, 11 GB)

Atlanta Braves (52-63, .452, 12 GB)

San Diego Padres (51-66, .436, 14 GB)

Cincinnati Reds (49-69, .415, 16.5 GB)

San Francisco Giants (47-72, .395, 19 GB)

Philadelphia Phillies (43-72, .374, 21 GB)

The Cardinals dominated the Wild Card leading Royals in four games to begin the week, and then picked up two wins in three games against the visiting Braves over the weekend to close the gap in the NL Wild Card race to 4.5 games. More importantly, St. Louis is just one game back in a tight NL Central race.
