5. Burger King

Starting this list with a sponsor who has had ties with Floyd Mayweather in the past, Burger King may look to capture lightning in a bottle twice and back “Money” in his last fight.

In 2015, Mayweather faced Manny Pacquiao in what was being called the “Fight of the Century”. While most people were talking about the fight finally happening, something in Mayweather’s walk out received most of the fan’s attention.

The Burger King mascot walked to the ring with Mayweather.

That’s right. The literal Burger King was seen with Mayweather before the biggest fight of his career.

Obviously, people were confused but intrigued by the Burger King’s inclusion. It was later found out that the company had spent an estimated $1 million for the mascot to be a part of Mayweather’s walk out entourage.

Now, there are a few takeaways from Burger King’s seemingly random sponsorship.

First, the company is known for making food “fit for a king”, so it would only be right that they sponsor the “king” of boxing at the time. Next, because people were talking so much about the mascot on fight night, Burger King received publicity for a solid week after the fight was over.

Another interesting tidbit here is that the Burger King mascot had actually been retired in 2011 meaning that it would no longer be featured in advertisements and campaigns for the company. The fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao brought it back to life only four years later.

For someone with that kind of leverage, you can bet that Mayweather would welcome this sponsorship again.

In the end, both parties involved in this deal were left happy and slightly richer than before going into the fight. With yet another high-profile fight about to take place, Burger King may once again cough up the dough to be a part of the few sponsors of this event.
