Top 25 college football players in 2017
By Brad Weiss
Prior to breaking his leg in the Alabama Crimson Tide’s National Championship Game loss to the Clemson Tigers, Bo Scarbrough was one of the most productive running backs in college football. During the Peach Bowl against the Washington Huskies, Scarbrough rushed for 180 yards and a touchdowns, sealing Alabama’s spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. He was named the Peach Bowl’s Offensive MVP, and should be back to 100 percent for the 2017 season.
Despite missing spring practice healing from his broken leg, Scarbrough will be the No. 1 back in an incredible stable of runners for head coach Nick Saban. Damien Harris rushed for over 1,000 yards last season alongside Scarbrough in the Alabama backfield, and Najee Harris is a five-star recruit. Scarbrough may lose carries to both players, but he should still be one of the better players in the country this season.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are going to be dominant again this season, and a trip back to the College Football Playoff is likely in the cards. While the team did lose a bunch of talent to the NFL, they have the pieces in place to make another run, and Scarbrough is going to play a big part of that. Scarbrough will build on his impressive end to last season, and if he is completely healthy, he will be a workhorse for Alabama this season.
Alabama opens against the Florida State Seminoles, who many believe will be a national title contender as well this season. That will be a nice early test for Scarbrough and company, who will be looking to shrug off their tough loss in last year’s title game. As a junior, this could be the end of the line for the running back, so he will definitely be looking to go out in style.
