2. Wesley Matthews, 83 Overall

Let’s pour one out for Wes Matthews, one of the NBA’s true iron men. He’s a warrior and beloved teammate. During his tenure with the Blazers he was one of the best two-way wing players in the league; he could defend the best wings in the league and effectively switch onto small guards while also spacing the floor; he annually flirted with the 40 percent threshold from beyond the arc.

Yet he hasn’t been the same player since suffering a brutal Achilles tear back in 2015. The fact that he has returned and played over 70 games for the Mavericks in each of the last two seasons is remarkable, but his production has fallen off substantially. His shooting from deep has dropped to the league average conversion rate. Within the arc, Matthews’ ability to score has faltered; he can’t convert effectively near the basket and his mid-range shot is less accurate.

On defense Matthews is still sturdy, but injury has sapped his athleticism and he has lost a step on that end. An 83 overall rating signifies that Matthews is a rock solid starter and perhaps a borderline All-Star. At this point he is definitely not that player. His rating should be in the high 70s at most.
