1. DeMar DeRozan, 89 Overall

DeMar DeRozan improves his game almost every year. Last season he made All-NBA Third Team at the brutal guard spot, which is a major accomplishment. DeRozan is an effective player that has some glaring weaknesses. He’s an elite mid-range scorer that lives at the free throw line and has improved as a playmaker over the past four seasons. At an overall rating of 89 however, 2K significantly overrates DeRozan. He’s simply not a borderline superstar.

DeRozan’s game has a few major holes which really hamstring his potential. He’s totally unreliable as a long range shooter and he’s a catastrophically poor defender. His inability to hit from 3-point range makes him much easier to guard in playoff settings, and he has struggled mightily on offense during Toronto’s past two playoff runs. DeRozan’s bricky long range jumper also contributes to the annual disintegration of the Raptors offense during the playoffs.

On the other end of the floor, DeRozan’s game is immensely disappointing, especially for his solid body frame and crazy athleticism. He can’t stop anyone on the wing, which makes him a liability against most competent teams.

Moreover, Kyle Lowry has driven Toronto’s success over the past few seasons more than DeRozan. The famed Lowry plus bench units, which have performed much better than DeRozan plus bench lineups, have routinely destroyed opponents.  DeRozan is a great player; he scsored over 27 points per game last year! But an 89 overall rating is too high. A rating closer to 85 would reflect his abilities better.
