NC State Wolfpack 0-1

Last week: Lost 35-28 to South Carolina
Last rank: 5

NC State, just like North Carolina before them on this list, suffers from not being able to live up to the loads of hype that surrounded them heading into 2017, and a poor performance on Saturday pushed them far down the list on the power rankings.

The Wolfpack lost 35-28 against South Carolina at a neutral field in Charlotte to open the year, in a game many thought would be an easy opener for the highly-regarded boys from NC State. Now, they’ll have to bounce back in a big way next week against Marshall to show that last week was just a fluke, or they may just see their season become a failure before it really could even get going.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons 1-0

Last week: Won 51-7 over Presbyterian
Last rank: 10

Wake Forest was likely on its way to staying at the 10 spot after its game on Thursday night if everything went according to plan in the ACC, but it’s tough to ignore a 51-7 win and a weird week elsewhere around the conference.

The Demon Deacons took down Presbyterian in a huge victory to open up the year, and found themselves up 37-0 at the half and 51-0 going into the fourth quarter. Although they weren’t exactly playing a powerhouse, it was nice to see Wake Forest going up big to start the year.

Now, they’ll have to show they can keep up with the momentum, unlike last year after a 4-0 start, and a big battle with Boston College this upcoming weekend will loom large for both team’s power rankings positions.
