Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 0-1

Last week: Lost 42-41 to Tennessee
Last rank: 7

Although they lost on Monday night to Tennessee, Georgia Tech proved why they’re a name to follow in the ACC this fall, and even moved up in the rankings despite the loss.

The Yellow Jackets put on a strong offense performance against the Volunteers even in a 42-41 loss, and really only lost the way they did because they went with a gutsy move and went for two to try and end the game in double overtime, rather than drag it out any longer. Tennessee was 25th in the nation before Monday night’s game, and it’s tough to dock a team for a game like that against a ranked team.

Virginia Tech Hokies 1-0

Last week: Won 31-24 over West Virginia
Last rank: 6

Virginia Tech proved on Sunday night why they belong in the top 25 teams in the nation, and also proved why they’re a top five team in the ACC at the same time with their big win.

The 21st-ranked Hokies won a big top 25 matchup against West Virginia on Sunday, taking home a 31-24 win over the 22nd-ranked Mountaineers, and held off an impressive performance from WVU’s Will Grier and a high-powered offense just long enough to pull out the win. Now, the Hokies have a few weeks of easier games to get ready for their big battle with Clemson at the end of the month, and they could rocket up the rankings real soon depending on that result.
