Throughout the NFL season, Matt Verderame will rank all 32 starting quarterbacks based on track record, current play and upside.

It’s time for another NFL season, which means the quarterback rankings are back in full effect. If you didn’t follow along last year, the ranking system is simple. I base all rankings off a mix of past performance, current play and whether or not the player has an upward or downward trend.

In other words, don’t expect Aaron Rodgers to rank 30th if he has a bad week. That said, if he plays horribly for half the season, he’ll drop. On the flip side, Mike Glennon won’t be a top-five quarterback if he wins a game and throws for 300 yards against the Atlanta Falcons this week. We have to see some consistency.

Alright, without any further meandering, let’s get after it.

Todd Bouman Division

32. Scott Tolzien

Tolzien has no business being an NFL quarterback. Since coming into the league in 2011, the former Wisconsin signal-caller has played for four teams and thrown two touchdowns against seven interceptions. Enough said.

31. Blake Bortles

Bortles almost lost his starting job, despite being a third-overall pick four years ago, to 32-year-old Chan Henne. He’s also finished in the “top” four of interceptions in each of his three seasons. Yuck.

30. Josh McCown

McCown’s main goal this year is to survive. The New York Jets are a horrid team, and McCown is a grizzled vet just trying to squeeze out another season of football. Frankly, it’s unlikely he stays upright for long.

29. Mike Glennon

Nothing says confidence in your quarterback like signing a guy for three years and $45 million, then trading four picks to move up one spot for Mitchell Trubisky. This is what the Chicago Bears think of Mike Glennon.
