New York Yankees 75-64

Last week: 5-5
Last rank: 9

Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez get all of the love for driving the Yankees offense with their slugging and home runs, but the 2017 Bronx Bombers are not a playoff team without the All-Star production up the middle from Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorious. The pair have combined for 33 home runs and over 100 RBI with an OPS over .800.

Getting Castro from the Chicago Cubs for reliever Adam Warren will go down as one of the all-time great steals by a general manager. The Cubs gave up on Castro way too hastily. His offensive upside is much higher than that of Addison Russell, who has struggled to hit with consistency in his three years in the big leagues.

Boston Red Sox 79-61

Last week: 6-4
Last rank: 6

The Red Sox were caught with their pants down after the Yankees filmed them using an Apple Watch to steal signs during a recent series. This is a tale as old as time, but with a modern twist. Baseball teams have been attempting to figure out their opponent’s signs for as long as the game has been played. Unfortunately, the Red Sox broke baseball’s biggest unwritten rule — don’t get caught.

This scandal won’t do much to affect Boston’s World Series hopes, but the Red Sox are the clear third-best team in the American League. Chris Sale continues to lead the race for the AL Cy Young, but has a 4.57 ERA over his past seven starts. Hanley Ramirez is riding a hot streak of sorts and now leads the team in home runs with 22. Ramirez has been a disappointment most of the year, but his bat can heat up without warning and carry a team for weeks.
