Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 1-1

Last week: Won 37-10 over Jacksonville State
Last rank: 6

Unfortunately, while the first seven or eight teams in the ACC are relatively weak, the top five are extremely strong, and it’s going to be a tough time in the 2017 season for Georgia Tech to get atop the power rankings.

The Yellow Jackets rolled to a 37-10 win over Jacksonville State on Saturday to earn their first victory of the year and moved to 1-1 in the process. Unfortunately, even though they put up a great fight against Tennessee in the opening week of the college football season, that loss could hinder their ability to crack into the top five in the conference any time soon. Especially considering some of the schedules the best teams in the ACC have for the next few weeks.

Virginia Tech Hokies 2-0

Last week: Won 27-0 over Delaware
Last rank: 5

Again, just like Georgia Tech, it’s tough to move up to the top four of the ACC power rankings, when the talent level toward the top is so high. That’s where Virginia Tech is unfortunately going to be unlucky, and it’ll take a big loss from someone higher up on the rankings to get any movement in their favor next week.

Although they pulled off a nice 27-0 win over Delaware, they need to battle a tougher opponent to make some noise in the conference and move on up as far as getting noticed. The game they’ll need to circle on their calendar comes against Clemson at the end of the month, and that’s where we’ll really see how the Hokies fare in the ACC in 2017.
