Louisville Cardinals 2-0

Last week: Won 47-35 over North Carolina
Last rank: 4

The Louisville Cardinals looked dominant in their second week of action in this college football season, and actually made a solid case for a move up the power rankings if other circumstances hadn’t gotten in the way.

In a big conference game against North Carolina, like we saw earlier on the list, the Cardinals found themselves in a bit of a shootout where they needed some usual dominance from Heisman contender Lamar Jackson under center to come out on top. Jackson proved how talented he is with his arm and on the run for the Cardinals, and he led the team to a big 47-35 win where they faced some adversity along the way.

Now, they’ll have a battle with Clemson on Saturday night, and could jump up quickly in the rankings next week.

Florida State Seminoles 0-1

Last week: Game with Louisiana Monroe canceled
Last rank: 3

The same situation applies here as with another team on the rankings this week, but, despite how Louisville played, I had a rough time battling with myself as to whether or not to knock down Florida State this week after a cancelled game.

The Seminoles suffered a big loss of their own last week without even playing a game when they lost Deondre Francois for the season, and it would’ve been a telling week for their spot on the rankings and in the conference to see how they’d fare with a new quarterback under center. Now, we have to wait longer for their battle with Miami, and we’ll see if the added break from dealing with Hurricane Irma gives the team more time to reconfigure their offense.
