Miami Hurricanes 1-0

Last week: Game with Arkansas State canceled
Last rank: 2

Just like Florida State before them on the list, it’s tough to knock Miami down the rankings on a week that they didn’t play, even with how well Louisville played against North Carolina on Saturday.

The Hurricanes were supposed to play Arkansas State in a game where they likely would’ve rolled over their competition, but an actual Hurricane named Irma unfortunately grounded the college football-playing Hurricanes this past weekend. Who knows what kind of impact this could have on Miami’s momentum, but we do know that it pushes back the meeting between them and Florida State for a few more weeks that will have major rankings implications.

Clemson Tigers 2-0

Last week: Won 14-6 over Auburn
Last rank: 1

The Clemson Tigers took over the top spot in the power rankings last week, and didn’t stop there as they took on a tough Auburn squad on Saturday night at home.

Although they didn’t exactly run up the scoreboard, the Tigers proved they can win close games against ranked opponents, and showed why they’re the top team in the ACC in the process. Along with the fact that Miami and Florida State weren’t playing this week, and it was really Clemson’s spot to lose in this week’s power rankings.

Now, with a tough game against Louisville next weekend to look forward to, it’ll be interesting to see how the Tigers battle adversity from within their conference.
