5. Robert Kelley

I was very impressed with Rob Kelley in the preseason. He looked lively, fast and a better back than he was a year ago when he managed 704 yards and six touchdowns on 168 carries. However, Washington got off to an awful offensive start against Philadelphia, managed just 10 points as an attacking unit. Kirk Cousins missed on a few balls, and the team couldn’t create anything on the ground. Kelley ended with just 30 yards on 10 carries.

The Eagles have one of the front sevens in the NFL, and it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that they were able to stifle Washington’s running game. Also, Kelley’s team was playing from behind for a large part of the contest – he didn’t have a chance to get started.

This week, Washington heads to Los Angeles to face the Rams, who destroyed the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. Is it indicative of a great Rams’ defense? Or a horrific Colts’ offense? Time will tell, but we can likely expect a much closer game this week, and Washington might gain some traction on the ground. Kelley is clearly the lead back in this offense (for now), and he’s a fine play in standard leagues.
