Fantasy football Week 2: 10 RB sleepers to target
2. Ameer Abdullah
To this point in his career, Abdullah has been known much more for hype than final product, as he had a quiet rookie year and missed a whole season when expectations were huge heading into year two. Even this year, he rose rapidly up draft boards after the Detroit Lions declined to spend a high draft pick on a runner (which many people expected).
In Week 1, owners were left wondering whether he is going to disappoint again as he only managed 30 yards on the ground and 11 through the air. But fear not – there is hope. Despite the low yardage, the usage was encouraging. Abdullah had 15 carries, much more than the next-highest amount – six, by Dwayne Washington. Add the three carries, and that’s 18 touches – a clear sign he is the Lions’ preferred option in the backfield. Also, he looked very good in his action, he just simply wasn’t able to break a big run.
The New York Giants looked like a team without a spark on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, and they surrendered 104 yards on the ground to Ezekiel Elliott and 268 through the air to Dak Prescott. The Lions can go into MetLife Stadium and make some noise, and Abdullah will be heavily involved.
