Matchups to Watch

There are some really good matchups to watch in this Georgia-Tennesse game, but I’ve picked two that you should definitely keep your eye on throughout the afternoon.

1. RB Sony Michel vs. Tennessee rushing defense

Here’s a name that often gets overlooked in Athens, when it comes to their running game. RB Nick Chubb gets most of the love, but Michel is a huge part of their running attack.

Michel has carried the ball 36 times this season, for 192 yards. He’s broken off a run as long as 44 yards and also has a pair of touchdowns this season. He’s a fantastic change-of-pace back, that can come into the backfield and be a huge threat.

Chubb’s clearly the leader in the running backs’ room, but the senior Michel should be a huge part of the game plan on Saturday in Knoxville. The Volunteers’ rushing defense has been gashed in these past four weeks, so expect these two to have a huge day.

2. WR Terry Godwin vs. Tennessee passing defense

The Bulldogs’ leading receiver, Terry Godwin, should be noted for his ability to get behind defenses and use his speed to create huge plays.

This season, Godwin’s only caught eight passes, but they’ve gone for 214 yards, averaging nearly 27 yards per catch. Of his eight receptions, four have gone for house calls to the end zone.

The Tennessee passing defense is going to have to try and stack the box to stop the Bulldogs’ rushing game, which is going to allow one-on-one coverage on the outside for Godwin. Let’s see if he can take advantage and have a big day against the Volunteers.

His speed and chemistry with Fromm have proved vital thus far and I think it results in a big day.
