Keys for Tennessee

Um, the Volunteers really have one option in this game to be able to succeed. It’s going to be on the legs of running back John Kelly. The Tennessee defense isn’t particularly great and Quinten Dormady has been up and down this season.

The most consistent feature to the Tennessee offense has been their running attack with Kelly. So far this season, Kelly’s rushing 81 times for 450 yards, including six touchdowns. Every time he touches the ball, he’s gaining nearly 5.5 yards.

That’s the only hope that the Volunteers have in this game because running the ball will allow their defense to stay off the field and slowly wear down the Georgia defense. It’s going to be a tough ask of Kelly because Georgia only gives up 98 yards per game on the ground.

Dormady is going to have to be efficient, protect the ball and make key third-down throws around Kelly’s running. He’s going to have to manage the game intelligently and move the sticks to keep his poor defense off the field as much as possible.

Tennessee is going to have to hope for a low-scoring battle, muck it up and hope they can score enough on this Georgia defense to win this game at home.
