Oakland Raiders

Week 7, Road Game

Why the Chiefs might lose

There’s a common “short week” theme brewing here for the Chiefs schedule. After they play the Steelers they have another short week to travel out to Oakland for a Thursday night game.

If you remember correctly this is pretty much the same scenario that got the Chiefs in trouble the last time the Raiders beat them. Back in 2014, the Raiders were riding a 16-game losing streak but managed to snap it against the Chiefs on primetime. That loss by Kansas City came on — you guessed it — a short week on the road.

If Derek Carr has returned from his back injury by this time then it would make things a little more difficult for the Chiefs. The biggest reason they could lose the game is that it’s the Raiders. They always play the Chiefs tough whether they’re good or bad, and no one ever knows how these game will play out.

How the Chiefs can win

If Derek Carr is still out by the time this game rolls around, buckle up. The idea of E.J. Manuel against the Chiefs defense is something that’ll make Chiefs Kingdom swoon.

Even if Derek Carr does play it still doesn’t bode well for the Raiders. In his career, Carr is 1-5 against the Chiefs and has looked awful in those games. In his last four matchups against the Chiefs, Carr has been sacked 15 times and has only thrown for more than 200 yards twice.

The Raiders defense also isn’t much to write home about. They have the ninth worst rushing defense and the 14th worst pass defense in the league.

If the Chiefs ever wanted Kareem Hunt to break Jamaal Charles’ record for most touchdowns in a single game by a Chief, this would be the week to do it.
