Iowa State Cyclones 2-2

Last week: Loss vs Texas, 17-7
Last rank: 7th

If not for the overtime loss to Iowa and Thursday’s close game against Texas, Iowa State could be 4-0. They’ve played better than the 2-2 record indicated, with quarterback Jacob Park’s emergence and mostly solid defensive play.

Against Texas, the Cyclones struggled to move the ball. Park threw three interceptions, while the running game totaled just 10 yards on 15 attempts. It will obviously have to improve on Saturday, against one of the nation’s top offenses.

This will be against Oklahoma, who will be fresh off a bye week. Iowa State threw up over 40 points against Iowa, so the potential is there for a big day against a quality team. The Hawkeyes aren’t like the Sooners, however, and could be in for a rough day.

Texas Longhorns 2-2

Last week: Win at Iowa State, 17-7
Last rank: 8th

Texas beat Iowa State and leaped over them in the Big 12 rankings. It was a much-needed win, after USC edged the Longhorns, by a field goal just two weeks before. So this team could easily be 3-1.

Shane Buechele returned to action against the Cyclones and had an unspectacular game. He threw for 171 yards and one touchdown, which proved to be enough in Ames, IA. The running game had trouble, too, but a Chris Warren touchdown provided insurance toward the win.

For the first time since Week 2, Texas will go home. Kansas State is their opponent, which should make for an intriguing matchup and lead to some separation in the conference.
