Another week of Big 12 football took place. Who stood tall in the Week 6 conference rankings?
The Big 12 Conference had a limited schedule in Week 5, with almost half the conference on a bye week. That made for three games: Baylor vs. Kansas State, Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech and Texas vs. Iowa State. Each one provided direction, whether a team won or lost.
Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech was the marquee matchup. It pitted two pass-happy offenses, with the Mason Rudolph-led bunch winning, 41-34. This put the Cowboys in the right direction, after a loss to TCU the previous week.

Week 6 will see teams return from rest and look to make noise in the Big 12. How do they stand, along with the schools that played in Week 5?
One week after nearly shocking Oklahoma, Baylor returned for a game at Kansas State. The game was only at a touchdown difference when the fourth quarter started. However, 13 points from the Wildcats put this game out of reach and gave the away team their fifth loss of the season.
Baylor struggled to stop the run, as they allowed 225 yards on the ground. Their offense couldn’t do enough to keep up with Kansas State, with just 3.1 yards per carry and 44 pass attempts from Zach Smith.
Nothing will get easier for Matt Rhule’s team. A game in Stillwater, vs Oklahoma State, is next. West Virginia will follow. There is a bye before the next game, but will it mean anything toward getting ready for one of the team’s biggest challenges of the season?
Kansas, like other Big 12 teams, was on a bye in the latest weekend of college football. This came with decent timing, as they dropped the last three games to Central Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.
The next few games won’t make it easier for the Jayhawks. They will host Texas Tech, one of the Big 12’s best offenses that kept it close with Oklahoma State high-powered system. A better-than-normal Iowa State team follows them, along with No. 8 TCU. So Kansas might be 1-6 before their last game of the month, which comes against Kansas State.
Can a win be managed in between? It will be difficult and may not happen until the Nov. 4 game against Baylor.
